Police have seized nearly 500 cartons of assorted brands of Tramadol in an intelligence-led operation at Widana in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
According to police, the operation led to the arrest of one Burkinabe national believed to be connected to the consignment.
The intercepted drugs are suspected to have been smuggled into the country through unapproved routes for distribution in Ghana and neighboring countries.
Authorities say the suspect is in custody and assisting with investigations as efforts continue to track other persons linked to the shipment.
The Ghana Police Service said the seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the illegal importation and abuse of tramadol and other controlled substances, especially in border communities.
Police have reiterated their commitment to working with community members and security agencies to prevent the trafficking of illicit drugs.
The seized cartons have been deposited as exhibits as investigations continue.
