NII KWEI Kussachin wrote his name in the history books after he triumphed over ex-champion, Jonathan Quartey by 7-6 to win the male edition of this year’s Masipraist all singles tennis championship.
The female category of the championship, which had giant trophies at stake for the winners, was won by Brenda Sutinga who beat her twin sister, Bridgatte Sutinga 6-4 to lift the ladies trophy.
Enroute to the finals, Kussachin beat Kwasi Sarfo Boakye 6-1 in the quarter finals before whipping Samuel Ampadu-Kyei aka ‘Kyikyiss’, 6 -1 in the semi finals, to book a place in the finals.
Jonathan Quartey, on the other hand, also easily accounted for Nana Attakora 6-1 at the quarter finals stage, before walloping Samuel Taylor 6-1 in the semi finals, to set a date with eventual winner, Kusachin, in the finals.
In the female version, Brenda Sutinga beat Brenda Bangdome 6-1 in the semi finals whilst Bridgatte Sutinga beat Mamud Mariam 6-3 in the other semi finals, ensuring twin sisters grand finale.
The MD of Masipraist Ventures, Mr. Maxwell Owusu, who deals in solar energy accessories, security systems and IT equipment, expressed joy about the competitive nature of the tournament.
The GOC Brig. Gen Joseph Adu Boampong, thanked Masipraist Ventures for sponsoring the tournament, urging other corporate institutions to support 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis club to promote tennis.
Samuel Ampadu-Kyei, President of Mess Tennis, commended Maxwell Owusu and his company for sponsoring the tournament, adding that the club is also grateful to Brig Gen. Adu Boampong, for his unflinching support for the club.
Coach Joseph Acquah, the Regional Coach of the Ashanti Regional Tennis Association, Madam Miram Ibrahim, an executive member of the Regional Tennis Association, among other dignitaries, watched the tournament.
