Incest Father Fights To Marry Daughter

Wisdom Akpe, after he was arrested

A 36-year-old painter, who allegedly had sexual intercourse with his 19-year old daughter, has been arrested by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Community 2, Tema.

The culprit, Wisdom Akpe, who lived with the victim who is unemployed, allegedly grabbed the throat of his daughter while she was fast asleep and forcibly had sex with her, causing her to bleed profusely.

The Police say the suspect violated Section 94 of the Criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29) and Section 105 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act) 29.

He was also charged with assault and threat of harm.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that Wisdom, after the incident, told some residents in the area that he would marry his daughter since the victim was good in bed.

The actions of the suspect compelled the victim to lodge formal complaint with the police.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, who confirmed the incident to the DAILY GUIDE, noted that on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at about 3:30 am, the suspect allegedly raped his daughter.

She pointed out that the next morning, the victim told a witness in the house about her ordeal at the hands of his father that morning since she was bleeding.

According to her, the victim, after the incident, threatened to report the matter to the police but his father knelt down and pleaded with the girl not to report the matter to the police.

At about 8:00 pm the next day, ASP Obeng stated that the suspect approached his daughter with a condom and attempted to have sexual intercourse with her again but she managed to resist it.

The police spokeswoman said on Saturday, July 9, 2016, the suspect asked the daughter to repeat the allegation in the presence of some of his friends but the victim refused when his father pulled a knife, slapped her several times and threatened to stab her.

The police spokeswoman added that the friends of the suspect intervened and disarmed him.

The victim, she disclosed, lodged a formal complaint with DOVVSU and she was issued with medical form to attend hospital and report thereafter.

According to ASP Obeng, the suspect, who was later arrested, admitted the offence in his caution statement.

The police, she noted, would soon arraign him before court on the various charges.
