The infirmary of the Tarkwa Prisons will soon be renovated and well-stocked with quality drugs by AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine in the Western Region, to help address the health needs of the inmates.
Managing Director of the mining company, Sicelo Ntuli, disclosed this when his outfit made a donation to the Tarkwa Prisons.
The donation formed part of the company’s gesture to help make life better for the inmates.
The items included eight sets of 40-inch flat screen televisions and 20 wall fans for cells in the prisons.
The managing director added that the gesture “will help take off boredom among the inmates, serve as source of entertainment and help reduce excessive heat in the cells of the inmates.”
He mentioned that some prisoners found themselves at the wrong side of the law and should not been seen as outcast but “rather society must also help in their reformation process by helping to address their needs through philanthropic gestures.”
Sicelo Ntuli stated that the gesture seeks to restore hope to the prisoners and to let them know that they still have a second opportunity in life.
“You should not let the situation you find yourselves determine your future but make the best out of it,” Sicelo Ntuli told the inmates.
He encouraged the inmates to be of good behaviour and eschew all forms of violence during their various sentences, adding, “Society has not written you off.”
Receiving the items, Officer-in-charge of the Tarkwa Prisons, Kwaku Ababio Ali, expressed appreciation to AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine for coming to the aid of the inmates.
He called on other organisations within the Tarkwa Nsuaeum Municipality to emulate Iduapriem Mine’s good example.
