Landlord Shoots Soldier In K’dua

The New Juaben police in the Eastern Region have arrested one Agbeyega, a 60-year-old landlord, for allegedly shooting and wounding an ex-military officer dduring a brawl.

The victim, Afum Isaac, was reportedly shot at close range at a drinking spot at Srodae, a suburb of Koforidua, the regional capital, Monday evening.

Superintendent Richardson Kumeko confirmed to journalists that Isaac was reported to have incurred the wrath of Agbeyega after he had accused the landlord of defrauding unsuspecting tenants by doubling the rent to persons desperately in need of accommodation.

According to the police chief, in the course of the brawl, Agbeyega –  currently in police cells – entered the bar, suddenly pulled a pistol and shot the ex-serviceman in the chest and took to his heels.

The victim, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to the Koforidua Government Hospital and is currently on admission receiving treatment.

Supt. Kumeko maintained that he dispatched officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to the spot to commence investigation into the incident.

The suspect, he said, would be put before court after the investigation had been completed.
