The playing body of Kumasi Asante Kotoko stormed the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace on Thursday to mourn the death of Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
Newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Dr. Kwame Kyei led the team to the palace to mark the one-week celebration of Asantehemaa.
Kotoko, which has won two African titles in their 81-year history, is owned by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the biological son of the deceased.
Some of the mourners, especially those who are football lovers, were seen shaking hands with the Kotoko players who were dressed in flashy suits. Some of them also chanted the names of the players.
Dr. Kwame Kyei led the footballers to pay homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who was flanked by scores of elders and Asante chiefs.
The one-week celebration was attended by dignitaries such as President John Mahama, ex-presidents John Kufuor and John Rawlings, as well as Nana Akufo-Addo, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
