Western Regional Minister Loses

Some National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MP) in the Western region have been defeated in this year’s elections.

The Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, who contested for the Sefwi Wiawso seat on the ticket of the NDC, lost to Dr Kweku Afriyie, a former Minister of Health under the Kufuor administration.

This is the first time that the NPP has won the Sefwi Wiawso seat.

Other seats won by the NPP for the first time in the region include Sefwi Akontombra and Jomoro.

The NPP, which has won about 16 out of the 26 seats, recaptured Ahanta West, Shama, Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Prestea Huni-Valley and Amenfi East Constituencies.

Some of the new aspirants, who would represent the constituents in august house, include Lawyer Kojo Kum of Ahanta West, Ato Panford, Shama, Joseph Mensah, Kwesimitsim, Babara Oteng Gyasie, Prestea Huni-Valley and Martha Manu, Juaboso.
The MP for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum, had 23,425 votes to beat his main contender, Kwasi Bonzo of the NPP who polled 20,875 votes.
