Asiedu Nketia
GENERAL SECRETARY of the defeated National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, has stated that his party would bounce back to power in 2020.
“We can win the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections if we do proper planning and good strategy,” he stated.
He admitted that the NDC had lost the 2016 national elections, saying the party could not oppose the will of the electorate.
The NDC chief scribe was talking to a section of the media before the Electoral Commission (EC) declared the results of the polls last Friday.
According to him, if the NDC strategized and managed its things properly, surely it could win the 2020 general election.
He said the NDC had no qualms over the defeat since it fought a good fight.
Mr Asiedu Nketia (known in political circles as General Mosquito) said there was no need crying over spilt milk, stressing the need for the NDC to accept its fate.
Deputy Power Minister John Jinapor, has indicated that President John Mahama’s main focus is to re-organise the NDC for the elections in 2020.
“I can tell you for a fact that the president’s pre-occupation now will be to ‘re-organise’ the party for the next general election,” he said on Joy FM’s News analysis programme, ‘Newsfile’ Saturday.
The Mahama-led NDC government was thumped at the polls last Wednesday, losing out to Nana Akufo-Addo who secured 53.85% of the total valid votes cast. He won the popular votes in six of Ghana’s 10 regions.
Mr Mahama’s party’s majority in parliament has been reduced significantly, with the NPP taking about 50 new seats in the 275-seat House.
In a post-election analysis on ‘Newsfile,’ veteran journalist Kweku Baako Jnr. encouraged President Mahama to have another shot at the presidency.
“I like him. He will be the best ticket for the NDC in 2020. Oh yes!” Baako stressed. The out-going president will be 62 years in 2020.
