Robbers appeared before court
Two young men who allegedly rob people and run into the bush at the Awudome cemetery in Accra with their booty have appeared before an Accra circuit court for robbery.
They are Samuel Osei aka Wale and Kofi Sarpong aka Rasta.
The duo are said to have conspired to rob and robbed one Anthony Kwaku Asare at cutlass point of his GH¢1,500 and one Exhause tablet worth GH¢1,200.
DSP Patience Mario, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Abena Oppong Adjion-Doku, that the police were on the heels of the third accomplice, one Afiriyie, who is currently on the run.
The two have however, denied the charges and have been remanded into police custody until February 2, this year.
This followed dismissal of a request for bail filed by Kwame Dei-Tutu, counsel for Rasta.
The facts of the case are that on January 11, 2017, between the hours of 8 and 9pm, the complainant sent his faulty Ford GMC commercial vehicle with registration number AW 4173-13 to a fitting shop near the Awudome cemetery for repairs.
Anthony Kwaku Asare decided to go to Gye Nyame bath house to take a bath at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, but while on his way he was attacked by the three accused persons who emerged from the cemetery to the roadside and attacked him with cutlasses, subjected him to beatings, robbed him of the said items and bolted into the cemetery.
The complainant reported the case to the STC police, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
In his caution statement, Samuel Osei admitted having beaten Antony with the side of the cutlass together with Afiriyie, but denied robbing the complainant.
