A 38-year-old driver has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter.
The accused Thomas Tetteh is reported to have proposed to his daughter because the wife (the victim’s mother) had divorced him.
According to the prosecution, led by Detective Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbiri, the accused on December 31, 2016 at Musuku in Accra had sex with the victim, who is currently seven weeks pregnant.
Charged with defilement and incest, Thomas, represented by his lawyer Joseph Turkson, denied the offence and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with three sureties.
The trial judge Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku has adjourned the case until March 20.
The prosecution said that the complainant is an unemployed person residing at Paraku Junction, near Dome, Accra and uncle of the victim.
Thomas, on the other hand, resides at Musuku while the victim resides with the mother at Christian Village due to the separation.
The victim always goes to his father to collect feeding fee from him at Musuku. On the fateful day at 2pm, the victim went to the accused to collect the said money. Thomas convinced the victim to be his girlfriend since the mother had divorced, according to the prosecution.
“Upon this, he had sexual intercourse with her on the same day, but the victim did not inform anybody after the act. Later on, this resulted in a pregnancy and complainant was informed accordingly.”
A report was lodged with DOVVSU, which led to the arrest of Thomas, who in his caution statement, denied the offence.
