Some people at Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region, who are not ready to have a functioning assembly, have once again invoked a curse on Electoral Commission (EC) officials to stop them from holding the district level elections on 11th April, 2017.
The unidentified persons yesterday placed a coffin at the forecourt of the district electoral office.
The District Returning Officer, Adu Danso, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE, said staff of the Commission yesterday saw a white coffin in front of the office wrapped with red cloth, with dead fowl and eggs placed beside it.
Mr Danso said he was informed by the police before he got to the office at about 6 am.
The EC official said some few minutes later, a group of young men carried the coffin to a distant place and burnt it into ashes.
He said the development would not stop them from making preparations for the district level elections.
The EC official said the commission has finished training electoral officers.
Mr. Danso told DAILY GUIDE that the district electoral officer travelled to Sunyani, the regional capital, to bring Biometric Verification Machines for the elections.
According to Mr. Danso, “As I speak to you now, we are in the office working assiduously.”
Asked whether the one who invoked the first curse was behind the action yesterday, he said Nana Nyarko supported the boys to burn the coffin.
The incident did not cause panic in the town, according to the returning officer.
It would be recalled that on 3rd April, Nana Nyarko Ababio, who invoked the initial curse on EC in 2016 and stopped the election in 2015, led some youth in the town to reverse the curse.
He also cursed anybody would invoke curses to stop the district level election.
Nana Nyarko claimed those in opposition now might attempt to invoke another curse to stop the elections, asking the gods to kill such persons.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Director of EC, George Gyabaa, was not aware of the latest development at Nkoranza so could not determine its impact on the impending election.
