Kofi Sammy
Veteran highlife musician Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy will be given an honorary award at the maiden edition of the Eastern Music Awards (EMA) slated for Saturday, October 7 at the Eastern Premier Hotel in Koforidua.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is to appreciate the highlife legend for his immense contribution to music in the Eastern Region and Ghana at large.
According to the organisers, the decision to honour Kofi Sammy in the maiden of the awards stems from his exceptional feats in the music industry and the glory he has brought the Eastern Region.
“Abirekyieba has done a lot for himself in the music circles but he has not really been appreciated by Ghanaians. We chose him because he comes from this region, he has lived here for a long time and so whatever glory he has achieved in the industry extends to the region too. He’s paid his dues and needs to be celebrated,” they told Citi Showbiz.
Apart from Kofi Sammy, a number of artistes from the region will also walk home with awards from various categories.
The awards ceremony will with witness performances from icons such as Abirekyeiba Kofi Sammy, T Rhymes, Rakinova, Afariwa, Pope Skinny, Medikal, Koo Ntakra, Kwame Eugene, among others.
Eastern Music Awards (EMA) which is being organised by Hi 5 Productions, Presenters Association of the Eastern Region (PATER) and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), aims at rewarding musicians who either hail from the Eastern Region for their outstanding achievements in the music industry.
The 2017 Eastern Music Awards is sponsored by Darling Lemon Drink, Itel Mobile and Biegya Bitters.
