Twenty-six Togolese have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for illegally staging a protest without notifying the police.

The 26 were arrested on October 28, 2017 by the Greater Regional Police Command at Kawukudi Park, near Nima where they had converged to demonstrate against the Gnassingbe Eyadema dynasty in Togo.

They are facing charges of offensive conduct, conspiracy to commit crime and failure to notify the police.

It, however, took a while for the court to take the pleas of the suspects, as six of them said they could only speak French or Hausa.

They all pleaded not guilty charges.

The court, presided over by Priscilla Dapaah-Mireku, granted the 26 suspects GH¢10,000 bail each with one surety, who must be gainfully employed.

The case has been adjourned to November 13, 2017.

The Greater Accra Police Command last Saturday arrested the Togolese nationals and some Ghanaians who were clad in red attires and headbands at the Kawuki Park.

They demonstrated against the government of Togo to press home their demands for constitutional reforms in that country.

The suspects were reportedly riding motorbikes recklessly on the Nima Highway which according to the police posed security threat to the public.

The police, on a tipoff, dispatched a patrol team to the scene where the unlawful demonstration was taking place.

Upon seeing the patrol team, all of the demonstrators took to their heels while the police gave them a hot chase.

The 26 suspects, including a minor, were eventually arrested.

They are Gbandi Muda, Attati Yao, Kodjo Larbi, Suweba Alhassan, Fueina Dzagba, Itchoko Matey, Najowa Masawudu, Selina Abubakar, Ndu Shaibu, Mawan Alhassan.

Others are Ayiba Kodjo Bruno, Haruna Amiriyao, Faredu Ali, Razak Salifu, Ichadjeri Awal, Aziz Fueini, Alhassan Issah, Alormasor Adi, Issaka Shaban and Dodoye Yao Wolassi.

The rest are Abdu Karim Ibrahim, Mumuni Jawal, Mubarak Abudu, Abdulai Latif, Jibril Latif and Issaka Alilu.
