One hundred and thirty customers have been rewarded under the Western Union ‘Back to School’ promotion.
The customers received iPods, standing fans, pressing iron and electric kettles.
According to a representative of Western Union, every customer, who received money from Western Union during the promotion which opened from 15 September -15 October 2017 automatically entered into a draw which was held at the Zenith Bank, Labone Branch.
Western Union, according to the organizers, introduces promotions during festive seasons.
Joseph Nketsiah, General Manager, Treasury and International Trade, HFC Bank, averred that remittances in emerging economies are important for many households.
According to him, studies by the United Nations (UN) indicate that remittances contribute to poverty reduction in many countries.
Mr Nketsiah noted that in the past, while Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) have been fluctuating in Africa, remittance inflows have been growing consistently.
The Treasury and International Trade Manager was happy that remittances to family, among others, continue to grow in the country.
According to him, Western Union, with over 135 years of experience, has consolidated its position in the remittances and money transfer business.
