Kumasi Academy Death Toll Rises

FOUR STUDENTS have died under strange circumstances, at the Kumasi Academy Senior High School (KUMACA) within six days.

The fourth deceased student was identified as Clementina Konadu by her sobbing mother, Mama Afia. She (deceased) was said to be in Form 2.

Mama Afia, weeping uncontrollably, said her daughter, who was not sick, suddenly had high temperature, leading to her death.

According to her, Clementina Konadu was rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital Monday evening for treatment.

She said on Nhyira FM that Konadu’s ailment worsened and so she gave up the ghost on Tuesday, saying “I am devastated.”

The school had suffered three shocking deaths under similar bizarre circumstances, on Thursday and Friday, igniting fear and anxiety among the students.

All the lost souls had complained of high temperature and so they were rushed to the hospital for treatment but they could not make it.

Earlier this year, about seven students of the school passed away and that led to the school being closed down temporarily.

Cassandra Twum-Ampofo, the Ashanti Regional PRO of the Ghana Education Service (GES), who confirmed the latest death, said the GES and other stakeholders were troubled.

According to her, about 16 of the students of KUMACA are also suffering from high temperature and are currently on admission at different hospitals.

Ms Twum-Ampofo said the GES, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and other stakeholders are working assiduously to stop the shocking deaths.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, who looked troubled over the deaths, suggested the immediate closure of the school.

Meanwhile, some grief-stricken parents, whose children are schooling at KUMACA, invaded the school to take their children home yesterday.
