Abronye DC in a bandage after attack
THE OUTSPOKEN Brong-Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe (popularly known as Abronye DC), narrowly escaped death Saturday evening when some unknown assailants attacked him at Atebubu.
Abronye, who according to sources, sustained fractured arms as a result of pieces of metal used to hit him severally, was rushed to the St. Luke Hospital at Kasei in the Ejura District of Ashanti Region.
At the time of filing this report, sources said the outspoken youth organizer was suffering from femur bone fractures and internal bleeding and had been sent to the St. John of God Hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Tano North District of the region
Efforts by DAILY GUIDE to speak to Abronye failed as all his mobile phones were off.
However, speaking to local reporters at Atebubu immediately after the attack, Mr Kwame Baffoe said he was in the Atebubu Amanten District to meet with constituency executives as part of his tour of the region in the run-up to the NPP’s upcoming district, constituency and regional executives elections.
According to eyewitness accounts, Abronye DC met with some party executives at a private residence of the Atebubu Amantin DCE and at the tail end of the meeting, some youth he (Abronye) claimed to be agents of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, came and attacked him.
The sources said in the course of the assault, one of the attackers, whom Abronye claimed to have identified as Jafa, retorted, ‘We would show you where power lies because you accused the regional minister of corruption.’
However, efforts to speak to Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh or his aide, Maxwell Mahama, went unanswered.
The Atebubu Amantin District Police Commander, Superintendent Edward Konyer, confirmed the incident but said Abronye did not personally report himself to the police; somebody did on his behalf. He said the youth organiser was rushed to the St Luke’s Hospital at Ejura – outside Atebubu – and for that matter, could not comment on the extent of injuries he sustained. He said because there had not been any official report from Abronye, no culprit had yet been arrested, but promised to investigate the matter.
The DCE of Atebubu Amantin, Edward Owusu, speaking to DAILY GUIDE on the phone, confirmed the attack at his (DCE’s) residence but claimed that he was out of the district at the time.
He could not explain the clibre of constituency executives that Abronye met with in his residence and for which reason he was attacked. Asked whether he was not aware of the meeting that took place in his residence, he said his private residence had always been used for party activities since 2009 and so a meeting could have gone on without his knowledge. He condemned the attack and promised to liaise with the district police commander to bring the perpetrators to book.
