Foreign Ministry Dispels Statement On Trump

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has dissociated itself from a statement on social media that President Akufo-Addo summoned the US Ambassador to Ghana Robert Jackson to the Flagstaff House in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s ‘shithole’ slur.

The US envoy was said to have been summoned to clarify the statement that President Trump made about Africans and Haitians.

But the Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a statement, said it did not author the said statement that alleged that the US Ambassador had been invited to the seat of government by President Akufo-Addo over the matter.

“The Ministry wishes to state emphatically that the statement was not written by the Minister.  The Ministry, therefore, appeals to all well-minded readers to disregard the statement,” according to the statement.

The Ministry, however, did not comment on the invitation of Ambassador Jackson to the Flagstaff House for such discussion.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has criticized his US counterpart for allegedly making derogatory comment about Africans, Carribeans, Haitians.

In response to the shithole comment on his Twitter handle, President Akufo-Addo said:  “The language of @real Donald Trump that the African continent, Haiti and El Salvador are ‘shithole countries’ is extremely unfortunate. We are certainly not a “shithole country.” We will not accept such insults, even from a leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful.”
