Salifu Saeed with REGSEC at the Pigu site
The Chinese expatriates who were recently evicted for lack of permit from a mining site at Pigu in the Diare Traditional area of the Savelugu-Nanton Municipality of the Northern Region have nicodemously returned to the site.
The expatriates who had extensively defied the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) directives have assumed operations at the site in continual defiance of REGSEC orders.
The Northern Regional minister, together with members of REGSEC visited the site to ascertain developments there.
He warned the Chinese expatriates to cease operation and evacuate their equipment from the site until they submit the required documents.
According to him, even though the Northern Region in particular, and Ghana in general, are open for serious foreign business concerns, the country’s security and the safety of its citizens would not be compromised.
He entreated the youth to remain calm as the government continues with its fight against galamsey.
Prior to the closure of its illegal activity, the regent of Dagbon, the regent of Diare and the ?Environmental Protection Authority(EPA) vehemently raised red flag against the activities of Adom Quarry Company for not following the requisite procedure before commencing operation.
Meanwhile, the lawyer for Gbewa Palace, Lawyer Issah told DAILY GUIDE that though the Chinese company visited the palace to apply for a piece of land to do quarry, they have not yet finished with the processes.
When DAILY GUIDE contacted the Savelugu/Nanton Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, she said the assembly had not given the Chinese expatriates authorization hence the assembly would not hesitate to evict them from the site if they go contrary to the regulations.
