The Buipewura, Abdulai Mahama Jinapor II at Wasipewura’s palace at Daboya
THE PARAMOUNT Chief of Buipe, Abdulai Mahama Jinapor II, has taken it upon himself to mediate between Gonjas and Tampulmas for lasting peace.
Recent conflict between the Gonjas and Tampulmas in the Northern Region had resulted in the death of two persons, and the Buipewura who doubles as the Vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council, has described the situation as unfortunate.
“In this twenty first century, you cannot use guns and violence to acquire land,” he said at the Wasipewura palace at Daboya when he went to mediate between the Gonjas and Tampulmas.
Dissah, a community in the North Gonja district in the Northern Region was burnt down by some gun men numbering 50, who attacked the town on motor bikes, burning 35 houses resulting in the death of two people.
The two persons, John Bikari, a 45-year old man was hit by a bullet and died instantly while a 91-year old woman, Damah Kara was burnt in her house.
The traditional leader explained that prior to the attack, the two tribes had been living together in harmony over the years.
According to him, they should rather be fighting poverty and not fighting among themselves, an act which could deny them the new region.
The Buipewura stated that all natives of the area must work and stay together in peace saying the new region, when created, will benefit everybody, not only the Gonjas.
He advised residents to use the court to address their issues and not guns and violence. He urged the security to arrest and prosecute people who may take the law into their hands.
The Paramount chief lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the good policies initiated by his government.
He assured the government of restoration of peace at the Gonjalands adding that Gonjas are waiting patiently for their region which will be beneficial to anybody within the Gonjalands.
Meanwhile, Chief of Lingbinsi for the Tampulma has asked the youth to remain calm and allow the security agencies to discharge their duty to restore calm, peace and security in the area.
