The Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP Nana Asomah Hinneh, has described the recent killings of police officers on duty as a threat to national security.
He said such killings have the tendency to erode the confidence of civilians in the police.
To this end, there is the need to strengthen the service to regain its trust, he stressed.
He called on the authorities to equip police personnel with ammunition, body armor, side arms, vehicles, among others, to boost their operations.
ACP Nana Asomah Hinneh made the call at the Regional Commander’s Parade in Ho recently.
He saluted the smartly dressed officers, who marched past at the forecourt of the Volta Regional Police Headquarters.
Touching on the recent attack on the Kwabenya Police Station in which a police officer was shot dead, ACP Asomah Hinneh stressed that the safety of the police officer cannot be ignored.
To this end, he commended President Akufo-Addo for retooling the police to adequately carry out their mandate as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.
He assured the officers in the region that the police administration is determined to provide them with protective gadgets and tools needed for effective policing in the region and the country at large.
ACP Nana Asomah Hinneh said the parade is held on the second Wednesday of every month to boost morale among the personnel.
The police chief noted that the crime rate in the Volta Region is relatively lower than other regions in the country.
He urged the officers to justify the trust reposed in them by the people and government by consistently reducing crime to barest minimum.
The police chief further called for professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
He also appealed to officers to respect the public to enhance the relationship between the Police and citizens.
ACP Nana Asomah Hinneh called on government to provide the regional headquarters with adequate cars and motorbikes to ensure smooth operations.
