Peter Salovey, President of the Yale University

Yale University, a private Ivy League research University in New Haven, US, has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some institutions in Ghana.

The renewal of the MoUs comes on the heels of the inaugural visit of the President of the University, Peter Salovey, to Africa to renew partnerships and explore new avenues.

The President of Yale University, Peter Salovey, speaking at a ceremony at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, said the MoU was between the Yale University, University of Ghana (UG) and UG Medical School to deepen partnership to enhance medical research.

“This MoU signifies a relationship that fosters research collaboration, faculty and student exchange. It will help to educate young scientists for productive careers,” he indicated.

He added that the collaboration would allow the expertise of universities to be shared with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), government ministries, business communities to address problems in the future.

“I am hoping that through our shared commitment, we will continue to work together in producing fantastic global health research in educating talented young people throughout the globe and ultimately reduce the burden of infectious disease worldwide.

Prof Oduro Owusu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, who spoke at the ceremony, said the partnership afforded students of the University of Ghana the opportunity to pay a one year visit to Yale University to acquire knowledge in medical research.

“This is a mutually beneficial partnership. We make available to them the resources and they make available to us the technology so together we are able to push the frontier of research,” he said.
