Afienya ECG Goes Wild Over Togo Meters

Daniel Mensah Asare speaking at the meeting

THE AFIENYA District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr. Daniel Mensah Asare says his outfit is on the heels of some unscrupulous persons who have imported fake electricity meters into the country.

According to him, the meters were reportedly imported from Togo and Nigeria by some criminals in order to evade the ECG system and avoid payment of bills.

He said ECG has laid hold on some of those meters and they are on the lookout for the people behind it with the assistance of the users.

The ECG boss, however, noted that people caught using the fake meters have been billed per the consumption recorded on the meters and the meters replaced with that of ECG’s.

Speaking during media engagement held by the Tema Regional office last Friday, Mr Asare pointed out that the imported meters do not meet the specifications of ECG standardized meters.

He appealed to the public to assist in clamping down on those behind the criminal act.

Touching on other projects embarked on by his outfit, Mr. Asare said his outfit has replaced over 20, 000 meters that were not receiving bills and others have been appropriately captured into the ECG system in the area.

He promised more expansion projects in the area to get closer to their customers.
