The IGP, David Asante-Apeatu, saluting Otumfuo at the Manhyia Palace
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, has announced that the police administration will introduce new and pragmatic strategies to further boost security in the country.
He made the announcement when he visited the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to pay homage to the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who sat in state on Thursday afternoon.
The IGP said the police have significantly reduced the activities of miscreants, notably armed robbers, in recent times.
Mr. Asante-Apeatu, however, stated that the police would not rest on their oars but sustain their hard work to ensure that miscreants would not have room to operate in the country.
“We shall continue to work hard so that the security situation in the country would be greatly enhanced, thereby making life uncomfortable for miscreants and other evildoers who torment innocent people.”
Mr. Asante-Apeatu said he was at the Manhyia Palace to seek his father’s blessing and wise counsel to properly lead the police service.”
According to him, the Asantehene had been a pillar for him since he assumed office, stressing that he would forever be grateful to Otumfuo for his fatherly love.
On behalf of the Ghana Police Service, Mr Asante-Apeatu saluted the Asantehene and the people of Asanteman for their invaluable support to the police which has gone a long way to enhance security in the country.
He commended the people of the Ashanti Region for immensely supporting COP Ken Yeboah, the Regional Police Commander, urging the people to continue to partner the police to effectively tackle crime in the country.
Mr Asante-Apeatu stated that security is a shared responsibility between the security agencies and the public, indicating that the public should readily provide information to the police to arrest criminals.
The Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI, charged Mr Asante-Apeatu, to continue to work closely with the Asantehene to help enhance security, saying “always take advice from Otumfuo since it will help you.”
“The citizens are banking their hopes on the police to effectively provide security in the country. You should sustain your hard work at all times to stop the operations of criminals.”
