Cop Testifies In Kwabenya Jailbreakers Car

The suspects

The police investigator in the case in which 10 persons are facing trial at an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly escaping from lawful custody at the Kwabenya Police Station, has told the court that one of the accused persons, Kofi Seshie, was identified as the one who led the gang to the police station to free the inmates.

Detective Inspector Frank Owusu Afrane, who is stationed at the Accra Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID), told the court that one of the accused persons revealed that Kofi Seshie led the assault and shot and killed the police officer.

Detective Inspector Afrane told the court that the convict led the police to Kasoa Nyanyano in the Central Region where he identified Kofi Seshie.

He stated that George Sarbah, Elvis Owusu, George Asante and Theophilus Bandah, who were also in the house, were arrested to assist the police in investigations.

The investigator indicated that Nancy Dentah, who sells bread and soft drinks at the police station, smuggled a mobile phone to cell to one Dickson, who is still on the run.

He said the accused persons used the same mobile to call their accomplices, which led to the attack on the police station.

On Prince Osei, who is facing a charge of possessing firearm without lawful authority, Detective Inspector Afrane, told the court that Prince Osei, upon his arrest, mentioned Prince Kofi Acheampong as the supplier of the gun and the police proceeded to arrest him together with Edward Lartey, who was with him at the time of the arrest.

He also stated that investigations also established that Prince Osei and convicts Attah Kojo and Kofi Doku, after escaping from police custody, went to George Yeboah and asked him to give them money to escape.

He said Yeboah gave the two GH¢200.00 and later gave convict Kofi Darko GH¢40.00 to escape.

He has so far tendered the police caution and charge statements, locally manufactured pistol and six cartridges retrieved from Prince Osei to the court.

The case was adjourned to April 20, 2018.
