Bawku Residents Foresee Prosperity

A scene at the Bawku market

Social and business activities have started showing signs of a possible boom, once again in the Bawku Municipality, following the return of peace to the area.

For over three years, residents of the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding districts have witnessed a high level of peaceful co-existence among all sections in the area and that is a major factor encouraging new businesses to spring up and the revival and expansion of existing ones.

Prior to the resurrection of the age-long traditional dispute in 2008, the Bawku Municipality was counted among Municipalities and Districts in Northern Ghana that had been doing well in local revenue mobilisation, but lost this enviable position due to the disturbance that rocked the area for years.

The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yao Tettegah in an interview with the DAILY GUIDE, assured that the police will ensure that the peace being enjoyed in the area is maintained and called on the residents to support the police to maintain peace and order in the Municipality and all other areas that fall under the Bawku Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service.

He indicated also that patrolling will be intensified to keep criminals at bay.

On the “Operation Kondanlgou-2018”, a joint security operation the Ministry of National Security launched on Tuesday May 15, to help fight and prevent Cross-Border Crimes with the help of security agencies in Benin, Burkina-Faso and Togo, Chief Superintendent Tettegah said the operation has come at the right time, saying, “…it will help us in our patrols as we send message to criminals to either stop their activities or be ready to face the law, if they are arrested.”

He advised traders and shop owners to take their personal security seriously and help the police to fight crime.

DAILY GUIDE has learnt that, business owners are in a haste to secure places inside the new Bawku Market Mall, in anticipation of good sales and security due to its location.

The Market Mall initiated under President Mahama’s tenure has just been completed and is expected to be opened by President Nana Akufo-Addo when he visits the Upper East Region as part of his nationwide tour.
