Lady Demands Release Of Boyfriend

There was drama in an Accra Circuit Court when a lady complainant, whose boyfriend had appeared before the court for beating her up, asked for an out of court settlement.

Viraka Mcwoks, a Liberian, said she needed her boyfriend, Gnatoa Seri Julien, an Ivorian, to be released from police custody so that the friends of her boyfriend would stop harassing her for causing their friend’s incarceration.

However, Viraka wanted the bail conditions which would include payment by the boyfriend of her medical bills.

The court granted him a GH¢5,000 bail. He will re-appear on June 19, 2018.

Viraka, who covered her injured lips with a piece of cloth, gave her account without being heard properly and the judge as well as the interpreter had a hectic time grabbing her account of the story.

Police Chief Inspector, Francis Tassan, briefing the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh said, Viraka is a publisher and the accused, a labourer at the Mama Africa Restaurant at Osu in Accra.

He said both had been friends for the past six months and Viraka had refused a marriage proposal from the accused.

On May 26, this year, at the Nationalism Park in Accra, Viraka met Gnatoa in possession of her missing bag.

She asked him to hand over the bag to her but he refused. A struggle ensued between the two and this infuriated Gnatoa, who punched her in the face several times.

This resulted in a deep cut on her upper lip. She called for help and someone came to her rescue but Gnatoa bolted away.

A report was made to the police and he was arrested later.
