GOVERNMENT HAS disbursed a total of GH¢ 7,563,791.79 to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across Ghana.
The amount, which forms part of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), is aimed at empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the country.
According to a statement issued by the administrator of the DACF, Irene Naa Torshie-Lartey, the disbursed sum is solely for the first quarter of 2018.
According to the statement, the release of the fund demonstrates the commitment of the Akufo-Addo-led government to the socio-economic empowerment of PWDs in Ghana.
It said out of the stated amount, Upper East would receive GH¢ 635,538.82; Upper West, GH¢ 513,529.75; Northern Region, GH¢ 1,019,546.63; whilst GH¢ 831,780.78 would go to the Brong Ahafo Region.
It added that the Ashanti Region would receive GH¢42,457.30, Volta Region, GH¢1,181,047.80; Eastern Region, GH¢1,060,836.76; and Greater Accra Region, GH¢273,621.39.
The rest of the fund will cover the remaining two regions with Central Region receiving GH¢730,192.18, while GH¢575,240.56 will go to the Western Region, according to the statement.
The administrator expressed hope that the funds would go a long way to impact positively on the living standards of PWDs in the country.
