First Lady of the United States of America (USA), Melania Trump, is expected to arrive in Ghana on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, on a four-nation tour of Africa.
Information Minister designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, disclosed this to the media yesterday in Accra after an earlier announcement by President Donald Trump’s wife in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Mrs. Trump, as part of her tour of Africa, will be visiting Egypt, Malawi and Kenya.
She described Ghana and the other countries as “four beautiful and very different countries.”
DAILY GUIDE gathered that her trip is being organised in collaboration with the US government’s international aid agency and would be part of her ‘Be Best’ campaign which aims to improve child welfare, especially when it comes to online behaviour and addiction to Opioids.
“Each of us hails from a country with its own unique challenges, but I know in my heart we are united by our commitment to raising the next generation to be happy, healthy and morally responsible adults,” AP news agency quoted her as saying.
Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah disclosed that the US First Lady would join Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s First Lady, on Tuesday at about 10:00am to visit the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
According to him, Mrs. Trump would focus on improving the development and welfare of children in Ghana in line with the mission of Mrs. Akufo-Addo’s Foundation which is to support children and maternal mothers.
He also stated that on 3rd October, 2018, the US First Lady would visit the Cape Coast Castle in the Central Region with the view to promoting tourism in Ghana.
Melania Trump, an ex-fashion model, is a Slovenian-American.
The wife of the 45th President of the US is believed to be the first naturalized US citizen to become First Lady.
She got married to Mr. Trump in 2005.
