President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo left Ghana on Saturday, 27th October, 2018 to participate in the conference on the G-20 Compact with Africa in Berlin, Germany.
The conference, which starts today, Monday, October 29, would end on 31st October.
On his way to Germany, President Akufo-Addo made a stopover in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire to discuss bilateral and regional issues with his Ivorian counterpart, President Alassane Ouattara.
The Compact with Africa (CwA) was initiated in 2017 under the Germany’s Presidency of G-20 to promote private investment and infrastructure in Africa.
The 2018 Conference would bring together African countries, international organizations and bilateral partners from G20 and beyond to coordinate country-specific reform agenda, support policies and advertise investment opportunities to private investors.
Already, Ghana, under the compact, has signed a €100 million bilateral Investment and Reform Partnership agreement with Germany to promote private investment in renewable energy and vocational training.
President Akufo-Addo would hold bilateral talks with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
He would also meet Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of global giants Volkswagen and Siemens over their proposed investments in Ghana.
On Wednesday, he is expected to deliver the keynote address at the 18th International Economic Forum on Africa of the powerful Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France.
The forum would focus on growth, employment, migration and development and integration in Africa.
He was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta and officials from the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.
President Akufo-Addo would be in Ghana on Wednesday, 31st October, 2018.
In his absence, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia would act as president in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
