Ms Erika Frimpong (second right), Director, Frimps Oil, presents dummy Cheque to DCOP Maame Tiwa Addo-Danquah
As part of its corporate social responsibility, Frimps Oil Company Limited has presented a cheque of GH¢36,834.59 to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for the revamping of its Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
The state of the laboratory which had been under resourced and non-operational for the past one year has forced the department to rely on private hospitals and other agencies for DNA testing.
At a presentation ceremony held in Accra, the Finance Manager of the company, Stephen Appiah, emphasised the need to support the police in combating crimes in the country.
He commended the police for their good work and assured them of the company’s continuous support in helping them achieve their goals of sustaining peace and stability in the country.
The Director-General of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, who received the cheque, said the current state of the DNA section of the FSL was hampering investigations.
“The section which undertakes identification and analysis of biological samples has been saddled with myriads of challenges hindering its smooth running. The most significant of these challenges is the lack of reagents and serving equipment available at the section,” she added.
DCOP Addo-Danquah indicated that the increased rate, as well as the sophistication of criminal activities committed, has necessitated the use of forensic techniques and emerging scientific technologies in criminal investigations.
She has therefore called on corporate institutions to support the department by emulating the kind gesture exhibited by management of the company.
