Dennis Amuzu
A peddler of toffee made from Indian Hemp has been arrested by the Achimota School Police for allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old man to death.
The suspect Dennis Amuzu, 20, according to reports, allegedly used a screw driver to stab Micheal Avorvi, 27, after a misunderstanding ensued between them.
After committing the act, Dennis Amuzu, bolted but the police apprehended him at his hideout at Achimota.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Deputy Superintendent of Police Effia Tenge, said the incident occurred on Monday, February 18, 2019, at Achimota Christian Village in Accra.
She said both Amuzu and Avorvi, the deceased, were friends who often sold toffee suspected to contain Indian Hemp at Christian Village.
DSP Tenge said at about 1:25 pm on that fateful day, a scuffle ensued between the two over who had the right to sell toffees in the area.
“While exchanging words, Amuzu, who had a screw driver in his pocket, pulled it out and stabbed Avorvi in the back of his left shoulder.”
She revealed that Avorvi started bleeding profusely and was rushed to the Achimota Hospital for treatment.
He was later pronounced dead by doctors upon arrival.
The Accra Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) said Amuzu, upon hearing of the death of colleague, went into hiding but was arrested by the police two days later.
She disclosed that the father of the deceased, Joseph Sedefia, later lodged a complaint with the Achimota School Police Station around 4pm the same day.
“The screw driver has since been retrieved from suspect and would be presented as evidence in court.”
DSP Tenge said police are on the heels of four friends of Amuzu, who helped him to fight the deceased.
