SEVENTY-EIGHT TOILET operators have been picked up by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for allegedly shit bombing areas around the Animal House Boundary at Borteyman, a suburb of Tema West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The operators, who were said to have broken the Public Order Law, embarked on illegal demonstration and decided to shit bomb the area when police stormed the place to stop them.
However, the police managed to apprehend the operators and sent them to the Police Headquarters for further investigations.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Samuel Kwesi Ofori, Accra Regional Police Operations Commander, explained that his outfit received information that the Tema West Municipal Assembly had shut down the human excreta dumping site around the Animal House Boundary at Borteyman and directed the operators to send the faecal waste to the Botanical Garden or James Town treatment plants because of hygienic condition.
“But the operators were refusing to comply and continued to dump the human waste in the open around the Animal House Boundary site and as a result the police were called in to stop them.
“Without recourse to the Public Order Law, the operators today embarked on an illegal demonstration. Some of them started pouring the waste on the street and other places in the open upon seeing the police approaching which is against the good health of our people and their safety,” he said.
In view of this, he said police had arrested the operators for interrogation and possible prosecution.
He served notice to the operators that the police would do everything humanly possible to ensure the order issued by the Tema West Assembly would prevail for the safety of the people in the area.
However, President of the Waste Management Association, Pastor Daniel Asare, denied knowledge of the demonstration explaining that “when the notice came, I spoke with our people to comply but I am not aware of the operators embarking on demonstration today until I came here.”
