FORENSIC EXPERTS from the Criminal Investigation Department have begun screening gadgets seized from the chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, who was arrested and released about a week ago.
According to police sources, the screening started yesterday when Mr Ofosu-Ampofo reported himself to the police for the second time after being granted bail.
The screening reportedly took place in the presence of his lawyers and himself.
The screening was supposed to have been done on June 12, 2019, but according to Abraham Amaliba, one of his lawyers, the head of forensic was away on national assignment hence its postponement to yesterday.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was supposed to report at 2pm yesterday but arrived earlier around 1:42pm even before his lawyers arrived.
A source said they were ushered into the conference room where the whole show began. They left the premises around 3pm.
Also representing Mr Ofosu-Ampofo were Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, Abraham Amaliba, as well as some NDC national executives.
A week ago, Abraham Amaliba told journalists that his client was yet to be charged by the police.
According to him, the police were investigating offences including conspiracy to commit crime to wit kidnapping, kidnapping and unlawful damage against Mr Ofosu- Ampofo.
The church elder was arrested by a team of police officers in the house of a former NDC minister at Cantonments in Accra on June 11, 2019.
His arrest follows an arrest warrant secured by the police from court to pick him after his refusal to honour an invitation from the law enforcement agency.
Armed with the arrest warrant, a team of cops traced the party chairman to Cantonments through intelligence.
He was quickly sent to his house as part of police routine for a search of his abode for telltale evidences in the investigation.
It would be recalled that the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, invited the party chairman to come and assist the police in an ongoing investigation into the spate of kidnappings and arson in the country.
A suspect being probed by the police is said to have mentioned the name of Mr Ofosu-Ampofo in connection with certain occurrences. Under such circumstances, the police had to invite him for a chat on the subject.
In the first case, he was invited by the police to assist the law enforcement agency following the leakage of an audio in which he was captured making remarks which threatened national security.
