Shatta Wale
Shatta Wale won the artiste of the year award at the 2019 edition of the annual Ghana Music Awards (GMA) UK last Saturday, which was held at the Discovery Centre, Jenkins Lane, Barking in London.
Shatta Wale beat the likes of Sarkodie, Medikal Stonebwoy, Kidi, Kuami Eugene and King Promise to win the award.
GMA-UK was organised by Alordia Promotions to reward Ghanaian music icons for their commitment, hard work and dedication in the music career.
Shatta Wale also took home other awards such as the popular song of the year and reggae/dancehall artiste of the year.
Samini was given special recognition and Nigeria Burna Boy from Nigeria was named the African artiste of the year.
Medikal won awards for best hiplife artiste of the year and hiplife song of the year.
Highlife artiste Kuame Eugene also took home highlife artiste of the year and highlife song of the year, whilst Sarkodie grabbed best music video of the year with his song, ‘I Can’t Let Go’.
Eshun won the best female vocalist of the year, with Wiyaala taking home best Ghanaian international touring artiste of the year award.
Akwaboah Jnr. won the best male vocalist of the year award and R2Bees was also adjudged the best group of the year.
Amamere Folk Music & Dance Ensemble, a pan-African dance group from Ghana, also took home Ghanaian traditional / cultural act award.
King Promise’s ‘CCTV’ featuring Mugeez and Sarkodie won the best collaboration of the year award on the night.
Other artistes who were honoured at the event include KODA, who also took home the gospel artiste of the year. Evangelist I.K Aning was also honoured with the gospel song of the year for his ‘Bobolebobo’ song.
Diana Hamilton grabbed the UK-based artiste of the year and UK-based best gospel song of the year.
