The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church inducting Rt. Rev. Ofori-Akyea into office
THE METHODIST Church of Ghana has inducted into office Rt. Rev. Samuel Ofori-Akyea as the new Diocesan Bishop of the Tema Diocese at the St. Paul Cathedral in Tema.
He replaces Most Rev. Thomas Brown Forson who will be taking a different leadership position after serving his six-year term.
Rt. Rev. Ofori-Akyea, before his appointment, served for 32 years in the church at Adeiso Society, Koforidua Diocese, Atibie Society- Nkawkaw Diocese, Osiem and Kukurantumi.
He further served as the Chief Superintendent Minister at Agona Asafo Circuit, Kaneshie North Circuit and Tema North Circuit from 1987 to 2019.
He is married to Mrs. Joyce Ofori-Akyea, Deputy Director of Nursing, at the La General Hospital, and blessed with three children.
His assumption to the highest position of the Church makes him the 5th Bishop of the Tema Diocese since the Church entered into the episcopacy.
Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, who performed the induction ceremony on Sunday, 13th October, charged the new Tema Diocesan Bishop to bear his calling in the presence of God and the entire members of the Church.
He advised the new Bishop to use his time to benefit the people of God through teaching and evangelism.
Most Rev. Ofori-Akyea was born on November 1, 1955 to Mr. Reuben Adu Akyea and Mrs. Comfort Obenewa Akyea, both of blessed memory. He started his formal education at Mampong Akwapim Methodist Primary and Middle School before proceeding to Sekondi College and Gbewaa Teacher Training College.
He furthered to the ministerial training at the Trinity Theological Seminary where he obtained a Diploma in Theology from the University of Ghana. He studied for his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree programme with emphasis on Guidance and Counseling from the University of Education-Winneba/ University of Cape Coast.
Rt. Rev. Ofori-Akyea attended several seminars and took short courses to enrich his knowledge at the Methodist University College and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) among others.
