BA BAR Chairman, Afred Tuah Yeboah picking a form to contest Sunyani East parliamentary primaries
FORMER AMBASSADOR to Nigeria and Libya in the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kufuor-led administration, George Kumi, has been refused nomination forms to enable him to contest the Sunyani East parliamentary primaries on the ticket of the ruling NPP.
The Constituency Secretary of the party, Ansu Kumi, confirmed this to DAILY GUIDE yesterday when he said the former ambassador is not known in the party at the constituency.
He stated the party was stopping Kumi from the contest because he went against the party’s rules and regulation in 2012 when he contested as an independent candidate.
The secretary quoted Article 3 (9) 1-3 of the NPP’s constitution to support reasons why the constituency election committee prevented Kumi from picking the nomination form.
He explained that Kumi needed to be ‘readmitted’ into the party per the guidelines as explained in the article.
“Even if he is readmitted, it must be indicated by a letter from the national secretariat after which he must serve for another two years to be eligible to contest any election on the ticket of the NPP,” he said, adding, “This has been explained by the party’s National General Secretary.”
All efforts to speak to Kumi proved futile.
Meanwhile, the President of the Brong Ahafo Bar Association, Afred Tuah Yeboah, was the first to pick nomination forms to contest in the Sunyani East Constituency parliamentary primaries.
Lawyer Tuah, who is a member of the Legal & Disciplinary Committee of the party in the Bono Region, told journalists after picking his forms that he would want to serve the people of Sunyani East and the party “in another capacity.”
“I was a deputy regional secretary sometime ago and served the party in various capacities, so this time I want to continue from where our current MP will end,” he said, adding that he is serious about the contest.
