Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission of Ghana has asked all Ahmadi Muslims nationwide to refrain from observing the Juma’ah (Friday prayer) in congregated form in any Ahmadi Mosque, and in like manner, any of the mandatory five daily salaat.

According to the Mission in a statement signed by Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, Ameer and Missionary-in-charge, “these directives will remain in force until further directives are received from us.”

The move, according to the statement, is to enable the Mission consult Government to seek clarity before coming out with an informed stance.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, it would be recalled, on Sunday, May 31, 2020, announced that religious activities can begin from June 5.

Also, the Minister of Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, during an engagement with the media on Monday, June 1, 2020, at the Information Ministry, outlined some 22 guidelines for religious to follow as they resume worship.

Among the guidelines are compulsory wearing of face masks, no handshake, no hugging, not allowing more than 100 worshippers for one service, and displaying educative materials on the prevention of coronavirus.

But the Mission says in the statement that “after studying the requirements and conditions, we have taken note of a number of grey areas that have the potential of leading to certain challenges.”
