Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
On Commonwealth Day yesterday, Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, reiterated the commitment of Ghana to upholding the values of the organisation.
In a statement to commemorate the occasion, she described the theme of “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, and Transforming” as appropriate.
There is an overwhelming challenge and threats to a promising and fulfilling future for generations yet unborn, she said.
According to Madam Botchwey, “We cannot afford to be helpless in the current situation we find ourselves,” adding, “it is imperative that we gear ourselves towards helping each other with our deeply rooted network of friendship of member states, including protecting natural resources and boosting trade.”
The Commonwealth family, she stated, remains an organisation that aspires to promote global sustained development and helps shaping the world while playing leadership role in curbing COVID-19.
In lauding the organisation, she described it as standing the test of time and championing and promoting democracy.
“It is therefore our hope that as we mark this auspicious occasion, we will cooperate more, with mutual respect and goodwill, to deliver a common future for our people. We commit to a future that is evidently characterised by sustainability, peace, security, fairness and inclusivity,” she added.
