Bloomberg did the ranking of the countries worldwide with the highest unemployment rate.
Nigeria has a population of about 200 million people.
The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says the underemployment rate saw a decrease from 28.6 per cent to 22.8 per cent, while a combination of both the unemployment and underemployment rate for the Q4 of 2020 stood at 56.1 per cent.
The statistics released by NBS revealed that Nigeria’s Imo State had the highest rate of unemployment, with 56.6 percent, followed by Adamawa with 54.89 percent.
“Combining both unemployment and underemployment, the state that recorded the highest rate was Imo with 82.5% followed by Jigawa with 80%. Ogun and Sokoto states recorded the lowest of the combined rates, 26.2% and 33.7% respectively.”
According to Bloomberg, with the 33.3 percent unemployment rate, Nigeria has overtaken South Africa on a list of 82 countries, while Namibia leads with 33.4 percent.
