Overall Best Farmer’s Robber Lynched

A 22-year-old suspected armed robber, who is alleged to have attacked and robbed the 2020 overall best farmer for Mfantseman in the Central Region of his unregistered Toyota Highlander at Mankessim, has been lynched by an angry mob.

Samuel Owusu was returning from Sogakope to Abeaze Kyeakor when three suspected armed robbers allegedly attacked him and snatched the vehicle at Mankessim Melcom View.

The suspected robber, later identified by the police as Kojo Owusu, was lynched by the mob after some taxi drivers who had received information on the said robbery blocked the main road, leading to his arrest.

The Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, DSP Irene Oppong, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said on July 1, 2021, around 1 pm, the Mankessim patrol team had a distress call that at about 12 pm, a man, aged about 22, robbed the occupant of Toyota Highlander using DV 2796B21 as the interim registration, and sped off towards Cape Coast direction.

She said the patrol team pursued the suspect and caught up with him at Saltpond after some taxi drivers who got wind of the robbery had blocked the road with their cabs, and that compelled suspect to alight from the stolen vehicle.

The mob then pounced on him, and according to DSP Oppong, the police got to the scene, rescued the suspect, and brought him to the police station and thereafter, took the suspect to Saltpond Hospital where he died subsequently.

DSP Oppong said a search in the pocket of the deceased revealed a driver’s license bearing the name Kojo Owusu, 22, a native of Ekumfi Ayisam and resident of Mankessim Nkusukum.

She said the Toyota Hylander which belonged to the best farmer is at the station whilst the body of the deceased has been deposited at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue pending identification and autopsy.
