Two suspected armed robbers have been killed and four others arrested by the police on the Kintampo-Buipe highway.
The two, identified as Hamidu Umaru and Haadu, were killed after some gun exchanges with the police Intelligence and Operational teams.
The detained suspects were identified as Saaju Bukari, Bertor Saabi, Ali Amadu and Isaad Seidu.
According to the police, the intelligence-led operations by the Special Anti-Robbery Task Force led to the retrieval of two locally manufactured pistols and live cartridges, machetes, bayonets, pepper spray cans and stun gun.
Some suspected stolen items including mobile phones and motorbikes were also retrieved from the suspects.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the suspects were behind many robberies including the killing of an international journalist some days ago on that stretch of the remote highway.
The Police Administration said it has instituted some rigorous measures to effectively combat serious crimes that have plagued the area over the past few years and similar intelligence-led operations have been employed in other regions.
They urged the public to collaborate with the police by providing credible information on suspected criminals for swift action, saying “policing is a shared responsibility. Therefore, we entreat everyone to get involved for a safer and peaceful society.”
