PUCG Starts School Of Engineering

The matriculants

THE PRESBYTERIAN University College, Ghana (PUCG) is in the process of starting a School of Engineering designed to expose students to experiential training, in partnership with industries.

The school, which is being established at the Obo campus with land donated by Nana Yeboah Afari Obuagyan II, Obohene, is aimed at ensuring that students graduate with innovative products.

President of the university, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, who announced this, said the BSc. Computer Engineering programme had been taken to Obo campus to commence full academic work at the facility, with nine students enrolled under the sponsorship of the chief and elders of Obo.

He was speaking at the 19th matriculation ceremony held at the Asante Akyem campus last Friday, during which he said Automotive Engineering, Materials Engineering and Electrical/Electronic Engineering would complement the BSc. Computer Engineering programme.

A total of 702 students, comprising 283 males and 419 females were admitted into the various undergraduate programmes of the university in the 2021/2022 academic year.

Prof. Owusu stated that a good understanding and appreciation of law helps students to be good lawyers and leads to a better application of the law in all situations.

He said the 2019 Afrobarometer survey by the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) suggested that many students, especially those living in rural communities, find it difficult to participate in e-learning because they do not have access to the internet and reliable electricity.

He called on the government “to support educational institutions, particularly private ones, through the provision and distribution of laptops and tablets to students.

He also announced that the progress of work on the Campus Internet Infrastructure upgrade was progressing, adding, “The Okwahu Campus is already connected to the Ghana Academic and Research Network (GARNET).”

Prof. Owusu said a sod is expected to be cut to provide a similar facility at the Akuapem, Tema and Kumasi campuses before the end of the academic year.

The PUCG president urged matriculants to be disciplined in order to achieve success in their education.
