James Gyekye Quayson
The Supreme Court has restrained the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyekye Quayson, from carrying himself out as the MP for the area.
This was after the court granted an application for interlocutory injunction filed by Michael Ankomah-Nimfah to restrain the MP who had been found by a Cape Coast High Court to have dual citizenship contrary to constitutional provisions.
The Apex Court in a 5:2 majority with Justices Agnes Dordzie and Nene Amegatcher dissenting granted the application to restrain the MP.
The presiding judge, Justice Jones Dotse together with Justices Mariama Owusu, Gertrude Torkornoo, Henrietta Mensah-Bonsu and Yonni Kulendi, formed the majority that granted the application.
The MP is to with immediate effect stop attending Parliament with the aim of representing the people of Assin North.
The restriction on the MP remain in place until the final determination of an application before the Supreme Court to interpret Article 94(2a).
