THERE WERE sad scenes when the mortal remains of the late Police Sergeant, Owusu Asante Baafi, 35, his wife Millicent Akyaa Agyei and four months old baby, were interred on Saturday.
The large crowd of mourners who besieged the Adomfe Cemetery in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, shed uncontrollable tears for the three departed souls.
Cause Of Death
The late policeman, his wife and child were trapped and burnt in their room in a two-storey police apartment at Apromase near Kumasi on the wee hours of Monday, January 16, 2023.
The painful manner in which the late policeman and his family died compelled the IGP, George Akuffo Dampare, to visit the disaster scene that same day to commiserate with the bereaved family.

Burial CeremonyÂ
During the burial ceremony, the late Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi was placed in a separate coffin, which was wrapped with a police flag, whilst his wife and baby were placed in a different casket.
Prior to the interment, the bereaved families (husband and wife), the Ghana Police Service and other groups, had read their separate tributes during a solemn ceremony, which also sparked tears and sorrow.

Top police officers like COP Kofi Boakye, who worked with Sergeant Baafi during his days as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, and COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the Director-General Administration, were there.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, who laid a wreath on behalf of the government and the people in the region, and other dignitaries were also present to bid farewell to the deceased officer and family.
Fire Investigation Report
The outcome of investigations to help unravel the cause of the fire which the killed the policeman and his family, has not been made public yet.
On the day of the shocking and heartbreaking incident, the IGP George Akuffo Dampare, announced that a joint team of police and Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) would investigate the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister had noted that a faulty air conditioner may have caused the fire.
He, however, was quick to point out that the investigators would be able to pinpoint what exactly caused the inferno, which aside killing the three people, also caused massive destruction to properties in the house.
