The confusion that has rocked the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region seems to be deepening.

This follows the decision by the Regional Executives of the party to suspend some of the constituency executives for allegedly hooting at the incumbent MP for the area, Kofi Arko Nokoe when John Dramani Mahama visited the area recently.

The suspended constituency executives include the Chairman, Emmanuel Ennor Kwofie. Sources also had it that the Constituency Secretary, Gideon Ansah Mensah, and Organiser, one Obosu, have also been suspended.

They have been accused of showing indiscipline during the recent tour of former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to sources, followers of the wife of the chairman, who wants to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries, were in her T-shirts and hooted at the incumbent MP who was with the former president.

The suspension of the constituency executives was contained in a statement issued by the Regional Secretariat of the party and signed by its Secretary, Joseph Nelson.

The statement said the campaign tour of ex-President Mahama in the area on March 26, 2023, witnessed an unfortunate incident.

According to the statement, some members of the party in a particular T-shirt hooted at the sitting MP, which caused those present huge embarrassment.

The statement noted that in the lead-up to the campaign tour, a circular was issued from the Regional Secretariat cautioning that no parliamentary aspirant should be allowed to use the occasion to campaign for him or herself.

“As the Constituency Chairman, you have the responsibility to ensure compliance of the party’s directive and also protect the party from public ridicule as happened at the programme,” it noted.

It said against this backdrop, “the Regional Executives at their meeting on April 6, 2023 and in reference to Article 48 Clause 8 subsection ‘C’ of the party’s constitution took a decision to suspend you for a period of three months.”

The statement added that the chairman’s suspension takes immediate effect.

“Your case will be referred to Disciplinary Committee of the region for adjudication. In the meantime, you are to hand over all party properties in your care to the Regional Secretariat,” the statement pointed out.

It would be recalled that about a week ago, some branch executives of NDC in the constituency vented their spleen on the regional executives for allegedly scheming to let the incumbent MP go unopposed in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted the constituency chairman to react to the story, he said he would not discuss the issue in public.
