Flagbearer hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has issued a stern warning to stakeholders in the party, stating that he will not tolerate attacks on his supporters in the future. This comes after an incident at the Super Delegates’ Conference on Saturday, August 26, where his Polling Agent in North East Region, Ali Zakaria, was hit in the eye.
The incident has been described as exaggerated by the party’s regional branch.
Zakaria was taken to the Baptist Medical Center (BMC) for immediate treatment, but had to be brought to Accra for further medical attention. Kyerematen, who placed third in the elections, visited Zakaria at the Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital and expressed his concern over the attack. He labeled the incident as an act of total indiscipline, adding that it tarnishes the image of the NPP.
Kyerematen warned that such behavior will not be tolerated in the future.
He emphasized the need for peaceful and organized elections within the party, questioning how they can successfully conduct the same process with a larger number of people gathered.
He expressed his unhappiness over the incident, stating that the party should not ignore what had occurred.
The Elections Committee had already met with Kyerematen regarding the incident, and spokesperson Alexander Afenyo-Markin mentioned that a one-on-one engagement will be arranged.
While Kyerematen did not comment on the meeting, he condemned the attack as an act of total indiscipline and indecent behavior.
He questioned how a decent party can oversee such behavior, especially at the level of super delegates.
Kyerematen’s warning sends a clear message to stakeholders that any further attacks on his supporters will not be tolerated.
He urges the party to uphold peaceful and organized elections and expects them to address the incident appropriately.
