Popular broadcaster Serwaa Amihere has taken a firm stance against public pressure to join the ongoing #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest through tweets and social media endorsements.
The broadcaster, known for her advocacy on various social issues, expressed her displeasure at being urged to lend her voice to the protest.
Serwaa Amihere, who has consistently used her social media platforms to champion causes aimed at highlighting societal challenges and calling on the government to address them, stated firmly that no one could compel her to tweet about the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest. She maintained that she would add her voice to the cause at her own discretion.
The broadcaster’s comments came in response to numerous calls by Ghanaians on social media, urging her to use her influence to amplify the grievances of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters.
In a tweet posted on Friday, September 23, 2023, Serwaa Amihere reflected on her past advocacy efforts, highlighting that she had consistently spoken out on various issues, including recent flooding problems. She expressed her frustration, saying, “I tweet when I want to. You don’t force me to. When I was talking about floods on TV and tweeting about them, you were selling sneakers.”
Amihere went on to emphasise her commitment to advocacy work and her tireless efforts in addressing the concerns of marginalised communities, stating, “I like your patriotism but don’t tell me what to tweet and what not to tweet! I am not lucky! I WORK! Nothing falls on my lap, I work! Speaking for the woman in Zongo, I do it all the time.”
