A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication team, Prince Fosu-Antwi has commended the sector minister for Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong following the launch of the Youth in Agric programme.
According to him the launch of the programme, a component of the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) is a huge step in the right direction.s it is designed to support youth in agriculture and curb youth unemployment in the country.
Speaking on the Bottom Line late night show, Mr. Ofosu-Antwi listed some benefits of the ‘Youth in Agric’, programme.
They include the reduction in rural-urban migration among the youth, increase in agricultural productivity, among others.
“What this initiative means is that there will be a reduction in the importation of onions, tomatoes and the rest. The country within a space of time will be food sufficient,” he said.
Mr. Ofosu-Antwi said the initiative with its four main components which include crops/block farm, livestock and poultry, fisheries aquaculture and agribusiness has been created to help the country achieve its food and nutrition goals.
“This will increase food sufficiency in the country. We need as a country to support this initiative for a prosperous nation,” he added.
