Seventeen New Patriotic Party(NPP) parliamentary aspirants from seven orphan constituencies in the Northern Region have been scheduled for vetting on Tuesday, November 14, 2024, at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Tamale in the Northern Region.
The 17 parliamentary aspirants have filed to contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries in orphan constituencies in the Northern region to lead the party in the 2024 general elections.
The NPP in its commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and excellence within the democratic process, has announced to the public the upcoming vetting session for the party’s parliamentary aspirants in the Northern Region who have successfully filed their nominations to contest for the position of parliamentary candidates in the constituencies where the party does not have a sitting member of parliament (orphan constituencies).
The aspirants are Kpandai-Mathew Nyindam, Richard Kwasi Nyamah, Saboba-Charles Bintin Binipom, Jawol Abraham, Wulensi- Alhaji Abdulai Haruna, Thomas Donkor Ogajah, Savelugu-Fatahia Abdul Aziz, Muhamed Abdul-Samed Gunu, Tamale Central-Sule Salifu, Ismail Yahuza, Abass Zakaria, Tamale South-Alhaji Fuseini, Alhaji Baba Alhassan, Ibrahim Baba, Alhassan Mohammed Soawii, Tamale North-Alhaji Abdul-Rahaman Alidu and Habib Adam.
The Northern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Prof. Hudu Zakaria, in a statement, indicated that the exercise will be organized in seven out of the nine orphan constituencies following the successful conduct of acclamation for the Sagnarigu and Kumbungu Constituencies, which registered sole candidates at the close of nominations.
According to him, the process is in response to the directives of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party issued on Friday, November 10, 2023, directing the regional party to organize vetting sessions for their parliamentary aspirants in the orphan constituencies from Tuesday 14th to Thursday 17th November 2023.
“The vetting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2023, is a pivotal stage in the selection process of parliamentary candidates. The exercise is designed to assess and evaluate each aspirant’s qualifications, experiences, and aspirations, and as such, forms part of the process of identifying and recommending the most competent and dedicated individuals to represent the party in the upcoming parliamentary elections”.
He, however, noted that after the vetting, successful candidates will be recommended for elections by their respective constituency electoral college.
Prof. Zakaria disclosed that National representatives on the vetting panel will be Dr. Antoinette Tsibu-Darko as Chairperson, Mogtar S. Mujitaba, and Dr. George Asante as members.
