The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has held its maiden excellence awards for staff and health facilities that have raised the bar in their work and professional conduct.
In all, 66 outstanding facilities, individual staff members, and leaders across various service levels were honoured under the Service Level / Institutional, Individual staff, and Special Awards categories.
First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, in her address as the special guest commended the GHS for motivating their staff through the award while congratulating all winners in the various categories.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo expressed her commitment to improving healthcare in the country which is evident in the various health infrastructure development projects and training of medical personnel.
She noted that collaboration to build a resilient healthcare system that left no one behind was key to achieving health for all.
Director General, GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, said the awards were structured at three competitive levels including the district, regional and national.
He noted that the award scheme, launched in 2022, was designed to recognise and celebrate outstanding performance and meritorious service by individual health workers as well as health facilities to motivate them to do more and inspire others.
The Director-General said it was integral to the Service’s effort to reposition itself to enhance customer care and promote patient satisfaction in healthcare facilities.
World Health Organisation Country Representative, Professor Francis Kasolo, congratulated the winners, and pledged WHO’s continued support to the government and encouraged healthcare workers to continue striving for excellence.
Winners
Senior Midwifery Officer, Krachi East District Health Centre, Oti Region, Egbeegbe Anagbuno, emerged the overall outstanding staff.
She took home a new VW car, a plaque and citation.
She was followed by Christian Kwadzo Vorleto, a Senior Physician Assistant, Anyanui Health Centre, Anloga District, Volta Region, who own the overall best in the leadership Excellence category.
His received an all-expense paid trip to Dubai, a plaque and citation.
Other award winners were Emmanuel Atta Boakye, Halimatu Sadia Halidu, Micheal Dogumka Kojo, Abraham Gyeru, Kennedy Selorm Ekuanor, Samuel Yankey, Dr. Issac Kofi Darko, Clement Dieyel, Richard Worlako Totime, Dr. Nihad Salifu, Mark Anthony Azongo, Emmanuel Tampah Lensie, George Alhassan, Bismark Kparikpari Wononuo, and Majid Sulemana.
Others were Solomon Obiri, Victoria Mensah, Margaret Adatorwovor, Iddris Musah Naparow, Martha Sottie, Ezekiel Nagben Lalibo I, Maxwell Avolsure Tisosgom, Dr. Benjamin Yitah, Dr. William Okyere Frimpong, Dr. Osman Abdulai Musah, Dr. Robert Amesiya, and Dr. Joseph Kojo Tambil.
The rest were George Opoku-Asumadu, Dr. Esther Priscila Biamah Danquah, Dr. Akosua Adumea Gyimah Omari-Sasu.
Development partners honoured were the World Health Organisation, USAID, KOICA, JICA, KOFIH, UNFPA, World Food Programme, Center for Diseases Control Ghana, Kokrokoo Charity Foundation, and Rebecca Foundation.
Facilities awarded were Nkoranza North Yefri Health Centre, East Gonja Municipality Salaga Health Centre, Nkwantanum Health Centre, Atebubu Hospital, Achimota Hospital, South Tongu District Hospital, Hohoe Municipal Hospital, Volta Regional Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and Northern Regional Hospital.
All the award winners received plaques, some won chest refrigerators, motorcycles, flat screen television and tabletop fridges.
